View Full Version : Pirate bay lost!! :( Toofan 04-17-2009, 11:33 AM All 4 pioneers got 1 year jail sentence + sum of 4.5 million dollars that they have to pay the movie/music industry. Really sad news. fookin hollywood. Kaz 04-17-2009, 12:16 PM How'd they win? Going to do some research. Kaz 04-17-2009, 12:17 PM http://www.mcvuk.com/news/33959/Pirate-Bay-team-lose-court-case Landmark ruling in piracy debate arrives, as four Swedish ‘entrepreneurs’ are given custodial sentences The founders of the BitTorrent Pirate Bay website have been found guilty of ‘assisting in making copyright content available’ this morning – with all four execs given custodial sentences. In a landmark case in the differentiation between file-sharers and pirates, the court found Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm, Carl Lundström guilty – and sentenced each to a year in prison. The site allowed consumers to download Torrents of new TV shows, movies and games for free - and share them with others. According to breaking reports, Peter Sunde has pledged to appeal against the decision – and to continue operating the Pirate Bay site. Sunde even told media last night that a court leak had told him he would lose this morning's case. He wrote on his Twitter account minutes before the decision was due: ‘Really, it's a bit LOL. It used to be only movies, now even verdicts are out before the official release.’ ---- Interested in seeing what happens on appeal. Sherwin 04-17-2009, 07:39 PM This is just getting ridiculous. I remember Microsoft tried to sue some college students for using a copy of MS Office. For the love of God they are college students they can't afford the $100 for the program. It probably costs Bill Gates like $2 for packaging and producing the CD but he charges an arm and a leg. They are taking this way too far my friends. Bi-Honar 04-17-2009, 11:50 PM Well, most of the costs are R&D Shervin jaan. But I agree, at the very least older versions of the software should be made available for much less, rather than being taken off the shelves. Kaesra 04-18-2009, 05:03 PM I havent bought less since I started using torrents, I wouldnt buy many of those things anyway, so what the loss and if a movie is good I'll wait and go see it in the Cinema, there a movies I wouldnt want to see in the cinema but I do want to see it to kill time. I havent bought less games either, I didnt buy that many CD's, I actually go to cinema's more often and get acces to stuff I cant buy not persé prise wise but bc it just isnt available where I live. But thats just in my case, I know its the same thing with many people, but there are probable people that sell stuff etc well I get why they wouldnt like that. |
