What a big joke. I was debating whether I should post it under the fun forum. But they seem to be quite serious.

View Full Version : Sharif U. must be joking PJ 04-17-2009, 08:22 PM What a big joke. I was debating whether I should post it under the fun forum. But they seem to be quite serious. Motori 04-20-2009, 10:17 PM I enlarged it 150% still can't read it. What does it say? artavile 04-20-2009, 10:26 PM I even got my daugthers' magnifier, still could not read it. This is what I have been telling CD a few days ago. :) Toofan 04-20-2009, 11:48 PM lol!.... thats like my avatars size man! :) PJ 04-21-2009, 02:39 AM I don't know what Behrou and Kasra have done to image processor here. Apparently whenever you post an image it gets processed on and the result is posted. Anyways, I zipped it. Hopefully this time you can read it. If not, here is what it says: In order to accept more and more great graduates of Iranian universities, and to compete with the top foreign schools, Sharif university is ready to register students who have: 1. Finished their BS in one of Iran universities 2. Have obtained admission from one of the top universities such as MIT, Stanford, UCLA, Harvard, ... (20 top schools from their point of view) 3. Have been accepted to the above schools with financial aid (Bours) For such students they offer registration without having to take part in the admission exam, and give them graduate assistantship. They will extend their assistantship on a yearly basis, based on their performance. SirAlex 04-21-2009, 04:08 AM Look at it this way: It's mostly for people who, for any reason (marriage, sarbazi very often happens, visa being declined this happens a lot too) cannot go to the university abroad as planned. It's a good option to have, and there are people who face those situations where they want to do "Tabdil be dakhel", but since they have missed the PhD konkoor because they were initially going abroad, with this plan, they don't have to wait another year. It's a good option, possibly not an indicator of Sharif's arrogance or claiming to be at the same level of those universities IMO. SirAlex 04-21-2009, 04:09 AM PS: There are at least two Canadian and two British univs in that list. Applying for universities and getting admission is not an easy process. If someone hasn't gone to Sarbazi, or has a marriage plan, they won't be paying $$$ for application fees to apply for a university in the first place. And if they have acceptance from those top universities with financial aid, they are going to get their visas with a very good chance. However I give you that, in case their visa doesn't come through, they have that option. But then again they are not competing with any of those universities and are not preventing anyone from going abroad. They would be more like a fallback option. PJ 04-21-2009, 04:58 AM PS: There are at least two Canadian and two British univs in that list. Yes, thanks. I edited my post. I know quite a few people who had fully funded admission from the very best universities and still could not go due to Visa, so they stayed in Iran or switched to Canada/UK/Holland etc. (mainly in 2005-2007). Hell, I even know someone who travelled outside of US for a conference and could not get back to US due to visa problems. And plus I know for a fact that a person has already taken advantage of this plan from what someone said. But again it is only going to be a back up plan. SirAlex 04-21-2009, 05:39 AM I don't deny that there could be visa problems and as I said, I give you that. Behrooz_C 04-21-2009, 08:40 AM It depends on whether they can offer all the other insentives that foreign universities offer, such as access to material, research funding, freedom of expression and thought, and of course the society they live in! Yep my stepbrother is one of those people he graduated top of his class from University of Tehran and is a doctor. Johns Hopkins University, the most prestigious med school in the US and in the world, gave him a full scholarship. The problem was that the couldn't get a visa. Fortunately right now he has a B1/B2 temporary Visa. Fortunately for him Johns Hopkins is going to freeze his acceptance, which is good because that will buy him time. He wants to go there for his specialty program the guy is brilliant I really hope everything works out for him. He just actually arrived in Los Angeles last night so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything works out for the best. |
