Gentlemen,

I think it's a good idea to create a To-Do-List and cross them off one-by-one as we get them completed. These are just a few things that we may have come across so far, but please feel free to add items and/or take-on any tasks which you think you may be up for. To avoid overlaps, if you're being kind enough to take care an item, please let everyone know in this thread that you're on it.

* Smileys: As of this morning we have a whole lot of kick-butt smileys added on. Please feel free to review them and if you find any of them inappropriate, let me know so that we can remove them. Otherwise, I hope you'll find some of them as hillarious as I did.

* Chat: I think Pedram is already looking into adding chat to the forums.

* Quick Reply: For some reason the Quick Reply option is disengaged, at least I couldn't type anything in there. It would be nice to have this option.

* Avatars: I'm not sure if Avatars are disengaged or what! But obviously none of us have them yet, so we have to look into that.

* New Forums: I think at some point, after we have 10 or 20 members, we should think about adding the new forums, Football, Other Sports, Fun and World Affairs.

Please feel free to add other items or assign yourself to one.

On a lighter note, I think we should make :nedico: our Ali Daei Smiley! :dancing1:

Yeah, I'm good with that Hamid jaan, simple and sweet.
The discussion of a ban in the open forum is an absolute must IMHO and definitely where things can go wrong otherwise.

Personally, I really to have a few moderators (maybe 5), with a dedicated Moderator's forum, who can decide and vote on any action taken in the open and as you suggested. This way, at least the person being considered for a ban will have a chance to defend themselves and/or give their side of the story before a decision is made. I think transparency and the right of self defence go a long way in building trust and avoiding the type of issues we've run into on other sites.

And should the bans be of an escalalating nature (i.e. maybe one week for first offence, 2 weeks for the next offence, 4 weeks for the 3rd and so on) or should we decide this moderating team decide based on the severity of the infraction and number of previous offences (all taken into consideration)?

I'll try to look at the Vbulletin site for the manual on how to fix some of these things. Btw I went searching for Smilies too, some funny, some basic.

I did that earlier too. Remember guys, if you log into the Admin panel and post something afterwrd, it will show your username as IraniAdmin (unless you logout first and login as yourself), so please don't forget to include your name in the post, if posting as Admin.

I think Avatar is disabled for junior members. The limit for becoming a member was 30 posts. I reduced it to 5 for now. But I don't know why it is still showing everyone as junior. In any case wait until you are a member then the avatars should work.

Yes, it was 30. I changed it to 5. I thought we should see the avatar now. But still no avatar.

Actually I think avatar is the same as profile picture. So, try to use that.

Dont know who made the change but now the whole add avatar menu on the control panel is gone. First it was there but you just couldn't choose one now its entirely gone. Strange.

OK, I think the reason it was not working was that there was no predefined avatars.
We might have to define an avatar category so that users can upload to it. I am not sure if someone has deleted the avatar category or not. So, now you can pick from the predefined avatars (there is a grand total of one avatar that I uploaded). :D

Well, you guys got the Avatar option going, whatever it is that you did. The only thing is that it doesn't let you to load it from a file (i.e. pick a picture as an Avatar), but you can pick from smiley's right now. Definitely a step in the right direction...

It isn't totally fixed too bc then everyone would need to go into admin and create predifined ones. There is a way to let member choose there own avatar. Atleast the avatar menu on User-CP is back up.

Alright musketeers, I figured out what's going on. You won't believe when I tell you! We had not set the permission under usergroups for registered members to be able to upload avatars!!! Thanks for telling me all the things you had already tried - it saved a lot of time. I actually stumbled on it by accident!

Apparently, if you don't do that (under Options in the FillZilla menus) you may have firewall issues, so I suspect that's what happened. You wanna give it another try and let me know? I'll double check the PM to make sure I sent you the right info. If you don't get a PM, you do have the right info and just try it again with the passive mode selected.

I have an answer on nr. 1, you have to go to vBulletin Options > vBulletin Options > Message Posting and Editing Options. The first PM I sent you with the name Admin duty had a report on what they asked me to change (thats why I sent it bc I didn't know what to fil in) this was one of those things. You can change it so you can edit days later. Atleast I think go check it out and btw I gave up on the extra smilies, I need to give my router some orders and I don't want them smilies that bad, read I am lazy.

Edit. Nr 2 might be edited in the same box > Message Posting and Editing Options bc I think it is bc of us not putting titles, lets try putting a title and see if it goes away, well it doesn't go away but it might have something to do with titles still.

Should we open a new thread dedicated strictly to the discussion of forum rules and moderation procedures? I think that's a very important one for all of us and what is that Persian expression about davaaye avval... or something along those lines?! ;)

That is easy Sly jan, the problem is that with the number of posts that we have, it is going to be a while until we get to such ranks. So, why bother right now. We have plenty of time later. The way it is right now you become a senior member after 100 posts. :drinking47:

What do you mean by a first page bro? Do you mean go straight into the Temp forum (as the 1st page) for now or actually have a web page? I'd love to get something like that going and start writing some artcles, but do we have the technical knowledge to do this? I know it would take me month to get something like that going, but if anyone can do it, I'm DEFINITELY for it.

As for the ranks, we can always do something now and change it later. As long as you don't mind the work Ali joon ;)

Ultimately, we're going to need a couple, or a few admins for the site, responsible for maintenance of the forums. Pedram and Kasra seem to be doing great in learning the in's and out's of Vbulletin and I'm helping them right now too, but if I keep the level of activity of the last 2 or 3 days, Sammy will definitely cacnel the wedding plans! :stiletto: If you're up for the splitting the task with them and saving them some time too, I can PM you the details as well. :)

Behrou jan, by the first page, I didn't mean with articles like in ISP. I don't know if this page is supposed to be a news site (from what I've understood it's not?). I meant just a nice first page for presentation purpose, maybe even with a logo or something (that's not important though), from which you can navigate to the future forums' page. I thought maybe it's always nice to come to a nice webpage at first when you want to visit a cool site. Just a thought.

For the other parts, Behrou jan I would very much like to help. But I don't know how much time I can spend because of my tense weekly schedual these days. But if I'm needed, I can try my best.

Guys, we really need help from as many people as possible to make this forum exactly into what we want and to implement all these suggestions. So far, Pedram, Kasra and I have been taking care of the Admin duties, but none of us are experienced in this field and we are learning as we go, which can be slow and frustrating at times.

If any of you have any IT/web development experience, please let everyone else know and volunteer your time to make this a better place for all of us.

* Women Members: Kazem jaan, that's a geat suggestion and an absolute must IMHO. I was actually thinking about that last night. No one likes to hang out at a Sibil party - no offence to any of us ;) For now, I think we should get the wives, girlfriends, friends that are girls, friends who have had sex changes and are now girls and even bearded circus ladies on here! We will create a more specialized forum for women. Any ideas on that? Fashion is good. Persian food recipes maybe (sorry not being sexist, but I doubt any of you guys have a good ghormeh-zabzi receipe)... Please feel free to make suggestions.

Yes, it would be great if you and Hamid can take the lead on establishing the forum rules and get the troops excited and wound up to come up with an amazing set of procedures that will make these forums great in the long run. We have all learnt many lessons on things to do and not to do from other sites, so implementing these, and doing it quickly is vital to our success IMHO. Please feel free to take charge on this issue and as team leaders with Hamid, do what you think it necessary, including estabslishment of a moderation team through whichever means you come up with.

It looks like Pedram, Kasra and I are getting on wtih the technical stuff okay for now and we're here to implement the technical aspects of your moderation rules and procedures. We all need to work together to make this site into the best damn site around. And anyone else who can take over or manage any other aspects of running this thing is more than welcome to join in - any pennies left over at any future point, will be split between the dasdan-dar-kaaran EQUALLY - although I wouldn't suggest anyone quit their daytime job just yet!!! ;)

Otherwise, Behrooz and Artie are working on forum rules and moderation policies and I'm sure they could used your ideas, suggestion or writing expertise to put everything on paper. Thanks for the offer Ramin jaan. Sly is working on developing a welcome page, if you have web development or graphics expertise, it would be great if you can help him out. Otherwise, Behrooz and Artie are working on forum rules and moderation policies and I'm sure they could used your ideas, suggestion or writing expertise to put everything on paper. So feel free to PM any or all of these guys to help out.

If neither of those two tasks appeal to you, we've got the membership drive and of course there is posting, posting and even more posting to make the forum more interesting for all of us. :mf_seehearspeak:

I nominate Toofan to do some streaming or highlight clips for us. He used to do a lot of that in ISP. I don't know if he has much time or not, but if he can do some of that for us and train some others we can start a streaming section. That should help increase the members.

He does an amazing job, I remeber his Ali Karimi Video was a legend and his choices of music were so good.

Well, that would be great if we can get some streaming forums going. Our transfer and bandwidth limits are really high, but I have no clue what's involved.

Shahin jaan, that's definitely an area where we could use your expertise. If you can team-up with Toofan and make this your little project for now, that would be great. I'm personally ready to help in any way possible to make this a reality and I'm sure I won't be the only one.

I thought about that but wouldnt it slow down the site, use up memory etc
I dont know for sure but I think it would.

Edit: apparently its already possible to add pdf,doc,zip etc look at the click on the expand icon for the attachments.

Try uploading it again, It was on 80x80 and it's on 120x100 now (and 120x120 for Vips lol dont know why I added 20 for them).
Is it good, too big or too small now ?
