Engoy guys. I thought I would do a public service for everyone here and post these 10 tips which makes it seem like you are working hard, but in reality you are not it just seems that way to everyone including your boss. If you can execute these 10 easy tips perfectly you will climb up the corporate ladder without really working that hard.
1) When you're walking around the office, walk fast. If you look like you're in a hurry to get somewhere you must be busy doing important stuff...perhaps a meeting to go to. See #10.
2) When passing co-workers in the hallway or other common areas, carry a look of determination bordering on "stressed" on your face. They'll read you like a book. Maybe there's a copier problem...see #3.
3) If you're in the copy room and another person or co-worker enters, occasionally pick up your printout, shake your head, and exhale loudly. You're doing incredibly important things, and this damn printer won't cooperate.
4) When people are sitting and small talking after a meeting has just adjourned, look fidgety, and then gather your things and walk out quickly. Feel free to throw in a "I've got a lot on my plate" or some other cliché. This guy can't even stick around to socialize he's got so much to do!
5) If you know someone else is not all that busy, especially your boss, tell them that it seems "like they have a lot going on right now" and look like they could use some help. It's best to offer help when you know it's not needed or won't be accepted. What a helpful employee!
6) If someone stops into your cube/office to small talk or cover some business, keep your back turned to them when responding, all the while typing furiously or flipping through electronic folders. You can't be bothered with this pedantic banter....you're a busy guy!
7) If people ask you to head to lunch with them, turn them down, saying "you don't have time and need to take care of some things. Those things can be going on this forum or go to your favorite website.
8) Occasionally, remotely log into your email early morning or late evening and send an email that relates to something going on at the office. The dedication of someone who works as late as you should be rewarded handsomely!
9) Find a reason to stay until your boss leaves. Leave right after them. Then see #8.
10) Meetings are tough...find out what the meeting is about, and have one good question or fact or point ready to contribute. Sound smart, then sit back and wait for the accolades.
