View Full Version : Minimum Wage!!
masoudA 11-18-2009, 07:07 PM I propose to increase the minimum wage to $20 in America. I guarantee it will create a lot of Burger King, Domino Pizza,...... and farm Jobs!!! Obama who must create jobs and says he wants to help the poor should jump all over this. Let's hope he does.
keyvan_pars 11-19-2009, 03:50 AM I propose closing Burger King, Mc Donalds, Domino Pizza etc.
American kids are rotten to the core due to the crap their parents have been feeding them since the early 70s.
In no time they will be economic whores of China (if not already);
I also propose for country music to be banned, rappers to be jailed and Britney spears to be sent Prostitution Anonymous support groups.
Behrooz_C 11-19-2009, 10:10 AM LOL @ KP
Motori 11-19-2009, 04:07 PM Masoud jAn,
It is a good formula for an economic havoc.
No matter the size almost all economic sector will start down sizing and major corporations will move outside of US because of cheap labor.
Even with $8 an hour M.W still 100s are moving out every year.
Then again imagine the impact on food prices, construction, real state rental, almost all prices will rise accordingly.
Just the humble opinion of an economic alliterate.
Bi-Honar 11-19-2009, 04:18 PM LMAO @ K1 :) You forgot abolition of video games. and commercials that tell kids to go out and play!
Agree with Rasoul, Masoud jaan. Even with $8/hr the American economy needs a lot of adjustments to pull out of this situation. In fact, high wages and low efficiency are two of the major reasons the US is in the situation it is. Mind you, I think most of the adjustments need to come in higher income brackets and managerial positions, but still. And there's also the large portion of migrant workers that are not even earning minimum wage at the moment. Even bringing those jobs to the current minimum wage level is a huge system shocker IMHO.

masoudA 11-19-2009, 10:15 PM Let me put a new spin on this - in support of the $20/hour
How much is the average annual cost to taxpayers for each person in prison? I hear all kinds of numbers ranging from $30,000-$60,000 depending the state and the level of prison security. Now - do you think with $20/hour, some of the people who are now involved in illegal activities such as drug pushing, would take the jobs, hence not ending up in jails?
Common guys - foget basic economics - We are at a huge recession need serious revolutionary solutions.....
Funny enough - this whole thing started as a push for Obama to do something to help the little man.

I don't think so Masoud jan, most of those guys will not keep an steady job. Again for most criminals the way of life and the thril they get is why they do the things they do.
p.s., I wouldn't want to buy meat from a psychopath butcher or eat a burger cooked and prepared by a pedophile.

While I see your good intentions, any decision taken for a nation has to be practical too. Or else, instead of fixing the eyebrow you poke the eye.
I can come up with another idea: how about cutting the defense budget of the US in half and giving that back to people? Or how about not charging people income tax?

Masoud jaan, I'm pretty sure that the group you're talking about (drug-dealers, con-artists, etc.) were already making WAY more than $20/hr.

Rasoul jan, I was just trying to come up with another way the gov can help people out which is even better than raising mw to 20. But we all know it is not going to happen. :D
masoudA 11-21-2009, 06:33 PM Actualy it is happening with what they are calling Stimulate Package. The problem is Bush Stimulate $$ went to the banks and Obama's $$ went to GM and other special interests... The problem is US politicians don't know how to create JOBS. not an esay task...
