The second all-Iranian car, named Runna, was unveiled here on Saturday in a ceremony attended by high-ranking officials and senior managers of Iran's automotive industry.
Iran Khodro Company has designed and manufactured the car and owns its intellectual property, reported the Mehr News Agency.

The car meets Euro IV and V standards related to air pollution as well as the Pedestrian Impact safety requirement. It falls within the class C sedans category which are affordable for the average Iranian families.

Runna is scheduled to hit markets by March 2010.

Last year, the other Iranian carmaker SAIPA rolled out the first all-Iranian car given the name Miniator.

It looks good from the fornt side. I don't like the back though.

Over all, not a big divergence from Samand. Specially the interior. The wheel looks just the same.

I hope these 2 companies (IK and Saipa) don't come up with more new cars and just concentrate on different models of the already existing ones. Otherwise things could get out of hands.

Anyways, nice job IK.
Thanks for the post Toofan jan!

Highs:
Good looks, specially front fascia and head lights.
Tail section also looks nice but not as impressive as the front.
Impressive 3 star Euro NCAP safety rating considering the highest Chinese products could ever earn so far is 1 star.
Compliance with class 4 & 5 Euro emission standards + pedestrian impact regulation will open up European market depending how competitive IKCO could remain and maintain reasonable price tag while facing numerous competitions in that class.
The 1.7 CNG burning engine will be a boost for the sales. But I still would like to see 180 hp 1.8 which they have in Samand.

Average:
Knowing the term "entirely made in Iran" is more aimed at national pride than any thing else, still I can see Samand (Peugeot 206) written all over it.
Hood (bonnet), Roof and Trunk lid (Boot) lines are almost Identical. Even the doors look the same with exception of door handles which are different.

Lows:
Why in the world a C class car should have 5 cup holders all in the front? Look at them, 2 in front of the shifter, one right by the emergency brake handle and 2 on the glove compartment door. The ones on the the glove compartment door is totally unnecessary and quite dangerous too. Upon rather fast take off both of those beverages will flip backward and pour all the hot tea over the front passenger's shim sham.
That steering wheel could look a tad better than what it is.
Economically does not make any sense either.
In this day that most of the giant car manufacturers of the world are trying to merge with one another and trying to reduce their product lines drastically in order to stay competitive, why IKCO should come up with a new car line which already exists?
They should of come up with another improved, bigger or even a small SUV version of Samand instead.
Considering increased production cost with minimum export market IKCO will never have another choice other than looking at a hefty government hand outs if they want to remain afloat in this world economy.

All in all I'm pretty impressed with the Runna over all. Nice job.

Hopefully they will start selling it in EU. It has been iranians dream that to be an
industrial country instead of oil producers and hopefully it comes true.

Rasoul jan, thanks for your always interesting analysis of our industrial products.

Anyways, if you would have to choose between Samand (the newest model) and Runna, which one would you have picked quality-wise?

I've heard some Samands are powered by a 180 hp 1.8 liter engine, being a horse power junky myself I'll never opt for a lesser power car. But if power is not a concern I would definitely pick Runna, it looks more modern with higher safety rating.
