What a game tonight. Coming back from 3 goals down and then the last 5 minutes and overtime. Answering a hat trick with a hat trick. This was a must win and they did it.

Most of the calls are in favor of the Caps. Fucking Bettman wants OV in finals, and the only team that can stop Washington is the Canadiens. Two bad goals in game two. As soon as we get on power play, the Caps get to hook, hold, and do whatever they want. Its a business, and OV is good for business. Whatever. Game 3, our goalie showed signs of fatigue by giving up bad rebounds, and our entire game collapsed in the second period, because the players were convinced the refs were stealing the game for Washington.(Gomez 10 minutes/Gionta 2minutes, later on Plekanec 2 minutes, and Cammalleri went ape shit on the linesman referee. They did respond in the 3rd with a goal, and were able to keep the Caps in their zone for a long time, just like they did in the first period where they got most of their best chances.

Game 4 is gonna be huge. Price will start. Its a must win.

Sorry Mr. G, Looks like we are beating you guys in your own sport. It was just a matter of time for the Caps to figure out Halak and Price is no match either. The funny thing is Canadiens have been very successful in the power play and the Caps just scored their first power play goal in the fourth game. Caps have more shorthanded goals than power play goals. Bring on the Pinguins and Sid the kid.

Not so fast PJ! It takes 4 wins to wrap it up.:Oldguy:

The Canadiens dominated(Almost) the Caps in their last 2 games, but two brutal mistakes cost us both games. We lost both games in 1 period. Game 3 was in the second period when the Caps scored a shorty, and same thing happened in game 4. We outshot, and out-chanced you guys, but some how you're able to cash in on almost every little scoring opportunity you get. Without Varlamov it couldve been a humiliating defeat for the caps.

Anyways, I'm almost certain the Caps will win the series, but I was hoping it would last longer given the Habs great performance against the mighty Caps.

Of course, I know we need one more win. And I agree that if we had theo in goal it would have been different. I thought we should have started with Varly from the start, since Theo was a Canadien before and it was like you guys knew him already. He always comes up short in crucial moments. I am glad it didn't take 6 games for Boudreou to replace him.
Please don't say you have outshot us. Washington has outshot Montreal in every game except game 4. Even in game 4 the difference was 3 shots.
anyways that the thing with Caps this year: Every one of the players can score and if one of them is slumping the others pick up the slack. You can never count them out, they come back in a flash.

Thats what I meant. We out shot u only in Game 4, but had more scoring opportunities in all 4 games. You said it yourself, the Caps can rely on all of their lines to score, but we unfortunately depend on two lines that have so far burned you guys in your zone.

Our top 2 lines have played better than your top 2 lines, however our checking and energy line choked up big time. Caps are getting goals from all of their lines. :(

Anyways, we'll see what happens in game 5. My mind says caps will take it 3-2, but my heart says the Canadiens will stay alive with yet another OT win in Wahhhhhhhhhhh-shington DC :):Ban-Cha:

PS* Theo was done years ago when he was traded to Colorado. It was a desperate move by McPhee to sign Theo when he failed to get Cristobal Huet under contract.

Agree with that. I always have a bad feeling when Theo is in goal. I know if the game is tight he comes up short. I have a much better feeling with Varly. I hope he can stay consistent.

They deserved it. If we can't score more than a goal in a game 7 that we need desperately, we don't deserve to go to the next round. Congrats. In my opinion this is on Boudreau. He should have pulled the goalie way before the last 2 minutes. At this point there was no point in being conservative.

What when where? The one Boudreau was crying over after the game? The rule states that if a player makes contact with the goalie while hes making a save in his crease, then the play is stopped without any player penalized. Its like a soft version of Goaly interference.

Boudreau says that Halak was able to his job, but he doesn't say why Halak fell on his ass instead of his knees. :Oldguy:

Hockey joy and tear gas mingle in Montreal

By Nelson Wyatt And Alexander Panetta
The Canadian Press

MONTREAL - What began as an eardrum-rattling eruption of hockey joy ended in an eye-burning cloud of tear gas as looters and police squared off on streets that had just celebrated a memorable Montreal Canadiens win. And a city with a history of hockey greatness, as well as hockey-related violence, wrote two chapters on the same night. A playoff win over the mighty Pittsburgh Penguins, heralded as among the most stunning in the Habs' 100-year history, sent tens of thousands of jubilant fans spilling into the downtown core Wednesday night in an ocean of red, white and blue.

Hours later the alcohol-fuelled remnants of that crowd began taunting Montreal police, tossing bottles at them and their horses. Then some covered their faces, smashed store windows and started looting. Police regained control of the downtown early Thursday by charging into the mob, discharging tear gas and jabbing their batons into the ribs of any stragglers. At least 25 people were arrested. Two officers suffered minor injuries. The vandalism occurred after the Ste-Catherine Street area had already mostly emptied out, following a family-friendly scene where a little girl hoisted a makeshift Stanley Cup from atop her father's shoulders to the cheers of onlookers.

By around midnight, store windows were being smashed. Looters concealed their faces — in some cases with the garments they'd already stolen, not bothering to pluck away the price tags fluttering from their faces. With their identities hidden they leaped through the broken storefront windows and emerged moments later with their arms full. One man warned his lady friend, as they dashed away from a liquor store, to be careful with the loot. "Hide the bottle," he snapped. "The police." He was referring to the line of officers who watched impassively from the closest street corner. They were waiting for the reinforcements on the way. Suddenly, rows of black-clad riot cops charged in from the peripheries, rattling their shields as a warning to the crowd.

They began blasting tear-gas canisters into the mob. As people coughed and scurried away, the police followed; the slowpokes in the crowd were slammed repeatedly to prod them along. It made no difference whether they were looters or happy hockey fans in the wrong place. If they were there, they got hit often. One man complained he'd had a tooth broken. Stragglers who paused and tried peacefully explaining why they needed to be there received the same reaction: a few swift, painful jabs in the torso. Si Si Gow, a 19-year-old international student from China, walked around the area with her boyfriend afterward. "I was at Crescent (Street) just now, which is really crowded and dirty with all the garbage that was thrown. I understand everyone is happy about what happened — the victory — but it's a little bit too much. Look at the street — it's all messed up."

The evening began with a celebration that might be expected in a hockey-mad city, after its team squeaked into the playoffs before miraculously defeating two of hockey's best teams. Tens of thousands of ecstatic Canadiens fans streamed into the streets to celebrate the team's elimination of the defending champion Penguins. Fireworks erupted over Ste-Catherine Street as people crowd-surfed and held aloft trinkets including Stanley Cups and, in one case, a stuffed penguin. Ronnie Cukier went downtown with his daughter and her friends because he wanted them to experience a true Montreal hockey celebration — a rarity since the Habs delivered their last championship in 1993. "We've been waiting for this Cup for a long time," Cukier said. "I've seen a few already. But let the kids see a few of them. Now's our time. This is our year to win the Cup."

After upsetting two of the best teams in the league, the unheralded Habs have suddenly enjoyed their longest playoff run since that Cup win 17 years ago. The city's beloved Habs were actually 750 kilometres away, disposing of the mighty Penguins in Pittsburgh with relative ease in Game 7 after trailing 3-2 in the series. The impromptu block party kept growing, fed by the 21,000-odd fans who noisily spilled out from the Bell Centre after watching the 5-2 victory on a giant screen. The capacity crowd had snapped up tickets to see the game on the giant screen the instant they went on sale. Fans cheered at each image of the puck being cleared from the Habs' zone. They roared every time it entered Penguins territory.

And the sight of Mike Cammalleri pumping his fist after a second-period goal literally prompted them to bow in the direction of his flickering, digitized likeness. They offered the same deferential cheer for goaltending hero Jaroslav Halak at game's end. Their loudest boos? Those were triggered by the sight of superstar Sidney Crosby looking up from the ice to complain to the referees, pleading for a penalty after he was wrestled down. People joyfully tossed Habs jerseys onto the ice surface in Montreal as the final buzzer sounded. They spilled out into the streets chanting, "Na na na, hey hey, goodbye," and "We want the Cup!" Riot police smiled warily as they watched the post-game scene.

Montreal has a long history of hockey-related hooliganism. Cars were burned and downtown stores were trashed and looted after the Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins in 2008 to advance to the next round of that season's playoffs. There were also riots after Stanley Cup wins in 1986 and 1993. The most famous riot occurred in 1955 when Habs legend Maurice Richard was suspended and fans took to the street to cause such havoc that "the Rocket" took to the airwaves to publicly plead for calm. Police said hockey fans don't deserve the blame for any of the looting or vandalism after major Habs wins in recent years. They say none of the people they arrested in 2008 had tickets to the game on them. An area was set up Wednesday by the city for a tailgate party around the Bell Centre, with a DJ and refreshment stands. The goal was to keep hockey fans and potential looters separate.

Up next for the Canadiens in their first conference final since 1993 will be either the Boston Bruins or the Philadelphia Flyers, who play their Game 7 on Friday night. Before Wednesday's events, the team had one message for Montrealers at a joint news conference with the local police earlier in the day: please behave. "I know our fans will have fun but in respect and dignity," said Habs legend Rejean Houle, who also acted as team spokesman at the news conference. He repeated his plea, in both French and English, on the arena's giant screen during the game. His message received cheers from the Bell Centre crowd, in both official languages.

K1 also lives in Montreal and therefore a Habs fan.
I also digged the info about why they call them habs. No Habitual Looter or drinker. ;)
Here is what I found on about.com
Question: Why are the Montreal Canadiens called the Habs?
Answer: Habs is an abbreviation of "les habitants," the informal name given to the original settlers of New France, dating back to the 17th Century. So it's a natural fit for the The Montreal Canadiens, established in 1909 and marketed as a French-Canadian hockey team.

Having said that, the nickname might have been the result of an error. According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as "the Habs" was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the "H" on the Canadiens' sweaters was for "Habitants." Not true. The distinctive C-wrapped-around-H logo stands for "Club de Hockey Canadien."

I had one too many drink last night. Celebrated till like 12ish on St-Cath, and then they had to close it cause a group of animals used the crowed, and all the noise they were making to break inside an SAQ ,and a footlocker store.

Its sad that the media labels em as Canadiens fan, but I assure you they were not habs fans. 2 years ago the very same thing happened, and the cops arrested close to 35 people.
Neither of em knew the score of the game when they were interrogated.

Came back home, got more drinks and we drove up to Mont-Royal, and continued partying there till I don't remember what time, and eventually I found myself in my bed, and yea. Lotta fun, jatoon khaly.

Got up not long ago, and my head still hurts, but it dont matter.

The say ''there might be other teams out there, but theres only one Club De Hockey!'' I'm just glad that I get to live these moments.

Canadiens have not reached the Conference final since 1993, and thats the year they won their last cup (24th)!

They are basically half way there Kasra jan. They are in the conference final and then they go to Stanley cup final. In American sports finals don't always mean finals. :NoTooth:
In NHL there is easter conference and Western Conference. The two teams who win the Conferernce finals play in Stanley cup final which is the mother of all cups. ;)
But to give you an idea why habs fans are so happy, last round they beat Caps who had the best record in regular season, and this round they eliminated Pens who were last year Stanley cup winners.
They were the 8th seed and they beat #1 and #4 so far and next one they have to play is either #6 or #7. So, the seeding is backwards this year. :D

I'm not a Hockey expert by any means Mr. Ped, but it looks to me like the top seed teams are a little burnt out from the regular season. I mean, the Habs started the series pretty slow against both teams and as the series went on they just seemed to be getting more powerful - or the other team getting more tired. It's kind of the same thing in big soccer tournaments that it's so important to peak at the right time.

Behrou jan, I am no hockey expert either, but from watching the Caps vs. Habs series and some of the Pens-Habs series, I believe the only reason they Habs are doing so well is because of their goalie. He is a superb goalie and he is peaking at the right time. In the last three games against the Caps he saved 128 of 131 shots against him or something like that. Of course they have a great team too, but if not for that goalie they would be long gone.

Last year, after a disappointing post season, Canadiens signed/traded for 7 new players and changed its core.

Our top two lines are the shortest in the league. Everyone laughed at our GM when he signed Cammalleri (leading goal scorer in the playoffs), Gionta(4th best scorer with 7 goals so far), Gomez, etc etc..

Most experts, if not all, predicted that the Habs won't make the playoffs, let alone win a round. Not only we made the playoffs, barely, mostly because of the injuries to our key players during the season, and because we were a whole new team with new players, new coach, new system; we were able to knock out the President trophy winners, and then beat the defending champions without our two best defensemen.

2 Game sevens won, away!

We made the playoffs thanks to Halak, and we were able to beat the Caps thanks to Halak. But thats not all, our D proved to be superior to that of Caps, and Pens.

We shut down Washington's star players (Ovechkin, Semin, Backstrom), and did the same thing with the Penguins (Crosby, Malkin). Theres not alot of D men out there that can stop those guys.

What a mess of drunkenness and confusion!
I laughed for a good 3 minutes when that guy grabs a single shoe from the window as he's running out of the Footlocker store. That was GOLD :)

The Bruins completed their choke, and now we're gonna play the Flyers in Conference final.

What a choke job by Boston. To be up 3 games to none and lose 3 in a row to get to game seven, then be 3-0 up in games seven and lose 4-3. But what a team this Philly team is. They are going to beat the crap out of Montreal. Mark my words.

Sweet Jeusus! I didn't get a chance to watch the game last night and just saw the score. What the hell happened?!

Mr. Ped, I think you jinxed Halak Big Time a few posts up when we were talking about the reasons they're winning! It's safe to say Halak o halak-esh kardi! ;)

We had 3 days off, and the Flyers played the day before game 1, so in terms of ''staying focused'', we failed last night. Halak has had 3 bad starts in 2010 playoffs, last night was the 3rd one where let in more than 2 goals.

Its a best of 7 series, so anything can happen.

The habs pulled an Esteghlal one. I expected Flyers to win but not like that. Everytime the Flyers came close to the goal Halak said befarma too. :D
I am telling you Halak was the one bright spot in Montreal team, with him performing like that Habs don't last more than 4 games. mark my words.

I think my cover is blown. Jinxing won't work like that. I might as well cheer for the Habs. Last night my cheering won the first overall draft pick for the Washington Wizards. :D

It is not that uncommon to come back from 2 games down to win a 7 game series. The Habs got one back last night in dominant fashion. I think they can tie it up before going back to Philly. If they do they have the momentum.

Oh Yes the jinx can be used but Im not sure what the life expentancy of this jinx is, especially since it would be left free to roam in the wild, it was a strong jinx that is certain but there is heavy competition and its a jinx eat jinx world out there.
