View Full Version : 3rd Place Match, URU-GER Discussions
Bi-Honar 07-10-2010, 08:31 PM I have no clue why Yoogi brought out that pathetic loser Cacau again. Klose and Mueller both had/have a chance for the Golden Boot award and the only way that's going to happen is they have the proper support upfront. In Klose's case, it would have made sense to at least play him!!! Lahm was clearly broken up after the loss, so I understand giving some young players like Aoga and Jansen gain some WC experience, but Cacao's 29 years old and he played like crap the last time he played.
Bi-Honar 07-10-2010, 09:27 PM Well... I'm officially crowning Germany "The Greatest Most Consistent" team of the last decade, top 3 finish in every WC finals in the decade + a second place finish in a Euro cup for a total of 4 Top 3 place finished out of a possible 6! :)
Great goal by Forlan and it gets my vote for the best goal of the tournament. Still disappointed that Germany was not in the final, but the show will go on tomorrow with a country winning the WC for the 1st time ever. :)
Behrooz_C 07-10-2010, 10:12 PM Uruguay keeper lost them the match. He was at fault for 2 of the goals.
But Germany will be a real force in Brazil 2014.
Kaesra 07-10-2010, 10:14 PM Klose was injured behrou as were a couple of others, I missed the match, wasnt that interested anyway, should have been a good match though given the score, Forlan and muller joint top scorers with villa and sneijder with 5, might go watch the final on a big screen tomorrow.
Behrooz_C 07-10-2010, 10:20 PM You should always watch the 3rd/4th place match even though it means very little. It's always more entertaining.
I want to put a bet on for tomorrow but the bookies are offering evens for Spain and 11/10 for Holland so there is no point. I can get 40/1 for 2-0 Spain with Alonso scoring the first.
What's your feeling guys? Anyone wants to predict first scorer and ful time score?
Kaesra 07-10-2010, 10:35 PM I went to the fair with my bro :D I figured it would be a good game though, figured we'd be back in time but ...
I'd say Holland wins anyway, Spain played one good game against a uninspired Germany and they have a weak defence, first game score is too much of a plain gamble, I tried the whole betting on the world cup thing but I kept on rebetting my earnings and stopped after the first round :D If Pedram pulls through and gives me my 3 points then I'll get about 100 USD for our pred thread for a 10 buck input, so Im good if the dutch win :D betting on spain wont give you money ;)
Behrooz_C 07-10-2010, 10:39 PM But how about Paul the fish? He can't possibly be wrong!
Kaesra 07-10-2010, 10:57 PM Hahha but Behrooz the Octo is rased in a german envirement and thus has a thing against the duthc and he had his last final wrong anyway. And the dutch have a parakeet, a chimp and an african hog on their side, its a tough battle though Octopussy against a Chimp/Parakeet/Hog combo who needs football abilities when you have psychic animals!!!
Great, now there’s a psychic chimp (http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/world-cup/blog/dirty-tackle/post/Great-now-there-s-a-psychic-chimp?urn=sow,255049)

This chimp may or may not know your destiny
It's not often that one gets to use the phrase "jumping on the psychic animal bandwagon" but several zoos and pet owners have been <strike>exploiting their animals for publicity</strike> using their beloved creatures to predict the outcome of World Cup games.
After the raging successes of Paul the octopus (http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/world-cup/blog/dirty-tackle/post/Paul-the-octopus-has-made-his-final-selections?urn=sow,254898), and the significantly less impressive success of Mani the parakeet (http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/world-cup/blog/dirty-tackle/post/Now-there-s-a-psychic-parakeet-to-worry-about?urn=sow,254871), an Estonian zoo has put Pino the soothsaying chimpanzee to the test for Sunday's World Cup final. AFP (http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hXo-PmlZyNc1STyAZSFnPuyVXrpA) reports:
Pino, who has been in Tallinn since his transfer from the Amsterdam zoo in 1994, was offered two paper bags containing snacks, each decorated with a Dutch or Spanish flag.
He instantly picked the Netherlands' red, white and blue over Spain's yellow and red.
Tallinn zoo owners are concerned for the accuracy of Pino's prediction, not because he's a primate with no knowledge of football or experience of predicting things, but because he was born in the Dutch capital. (Such a bias, of course, didn't stop English-born octopus Paul from predicting/causing The Three Lions' downfall.)
And just when you thought a prognosticating animal from the land, air and sea was enough, Tallinn Zoo also tested the predictive skills of Apfelsin, their African Red River Hog. He picked the Dutch, but his impartiality and the general pointlessness of the exercise have been thrown into question as his name translates to ‘Orange' in Estonian.
It was a good game. The best thing about it was the fact that Klose didn't play. I didn't want him to score another mordeh khori goal to draw level with Ronaldo.
The bad news was that after today's game Kasra is still asking for those three points. Babam jan bikhiyal! the difference is just $30. If I didn't change your prediction back then, I am not going to do it now. Your change was submitted too late. That's why I asked you to check your prediction on the first day, but you didn't do that and then sent me the correction on the second day.
You should be happy if you win something. Don't make me root for Spain. :D
Kaesra 07-11-2010, 12:55 AM Pedram you are judging me on 1 day or a couple of hours eventhough your friends did submit changes in the first round and in the second round after the "deadlines" how isnt that double standards if you dont give me the points I deserve, I did it prior to the games in the second match. I dont care that its just $30, if it doesnt matter that much why not put Parsia 3rd then? I kept insisting it would make a difference and you said it wouldnt, you said the reason you didnt want to change it was bc your family members would find it annoying to receive yet another change and I said then add the points up after the first round its finished. Didnt you accept someone making a late submission for Uruguay being third, even after Uruguays game was over and now you say I was late? There is no point in arguing over 40$USD, as I'v donated the site more than that and have no problem with it in that sence, but I didnt submit it too late and not giving those 3 points is taking the piss IMO.
I wanted to do it via PM cause it seems a bit unneccesary doing it like this but whatever we have done it all public anyway.

Now wait a minute. Nobody submitted after the deadline in the second round. In fact 5-6 people didn't send their second round prediction in time and when they sent it a day late, I didn't accept them. In the first round some people had forgotten to mention who makes it to the next round and I we made them submit it after the first match. There was also some late entries to the competition who lost the points related to the first few games. There was a grand total of 1 person who changed their prediction who said there was a typo and that was on the first day. When I sent out the spreadsheet the first day, I said please check your scores to make sure everything is ok. I accepted that 1 person because of that.
You checked your scores on the next day after I sent that update. I just said if I keep accepting changes it there would be no stop to it. Except for a couple of family members, these people are not my family and I feel closer to you guys than the rest of them. In fact I am usually tougher on people who are closer to me, and that's why I am tougher on you. When you asked for the change there was no time that I agreed to make a change. I just said if this makes a difference I will buy you a gift, I am still standing on that promise. I don't know why you take this so seriously.
Bi-Honar 07-11-2010, 04:43 AM Jesus, if you guys keep this up, I'm going to be cheering for Spain (my future home) tomorrow, so neither of you win anything!!! ;)
Plus, isn't it my job to be arguing with Kasra all the time. You're stealing my cranky little bro Mr. Ped!
Behrooz_C 07-11-2010, 09:45 AM I knew this would end in argument! :)
Anyway, Forlan was talking to the press and said that today was his 70th game of the year. Didn't quite catch the air miles that he said he has accumulated this year but it was astonishingly high.

Pedram jan, 1 person forgot to give you the 3rd place entry and gave it to you after the first Uru match was played and you accepted 3 people comming in late for the second day, if you felt they had prior knowledge and it would hurt the competition you wouldnt have accepted them.
I gave you a change bc of a typo, if you want I can give you the file I made on notepad where I had all the predictions made, I hadnt seen a germany match and it was the final match I wanted to change so it wasnt like it was one day prior, I know its being difficult for something small and I wanted to say nevermind but that doesnt make sence as it is you being difficult not me, you should have set a deadline, you said ASAP and as far as I understand that is as soon as possible and for me that was as soon as possible as I didnt see it on the quick overview before, not a single game in that group had been played. I would have been fine with a tied 2nd as you didnt change those 3 points when you should and now Parsia figures he'll be 2nd anyway if Holland wins, but I dont think 3rd is fair.
I dont want money from your own pocket either its just princibles and Im fairly strong on that part, if I deserve something I dont like not getting it and if I dont deserve something I wont accept it. If you really dont want to go into it farther and dont see that its not fair, then carry on and i'll accept it as you are decision maker and the one who keeps the competition fair but like I said earlier I wont be completly happy with it.
Anyway this all is if holland wins otherwise the whole argument has no place, if only germany and ghana tied  Atleast you guys know its not just me giving behrou a hard time at times :D, I am fairly strong on speaking my mind when I think something is wrong.:imstupid:

Kasra jan,
Let me clarify, Keyvan had sent his predictions in a hand-written piece of paper, scanned it and sent it to me. Because the piece of paper was a bit messy (I have attached it here) I didn't see the third place team at the bottom of the page. After I sent that update and said there was a third place team added to the spreadsheet, Keyvan called me and said it was there and I saw it. So, even though technically, you are right and I did accept his change, in reality it was already there.
Second, on the issue of accepting late entries into the competition, I consulted with you guys and everyone was ok with it. They lost the points for the games they had missed.
Third, when you mentioned the change to GER_GHA, I told you that on principle I would have given you the change, but I didn't want to encourage people to make more changes. I still agree with you that the problem that has come up was because of my mistake either to accept that one change or to not accept your change. That is why I said if this thing came down to that one change, I would compensate out of my pocket. In my book, if NED beats ESP, you are the second place winner of this competition. But the only recognition you get for that is the prize money, and I already told you if that happens I give you the difference out of my own pocket. I really don't understand why you keep saying the same thing over and over. I get your point.
Kaesra 07-11-2010, 04:44 PM Bashe agha, I never wanted the compensation from you and that was why I kept insisting on those 3 points but you kept pushing it forward, all Im saying is that I felt and still feel that if Im 2nd, I should be 2nd thats pretty much the point and I would be ok with tied 2nd. I brought up the late entries not because I wasnt ok with them but bc if they were allowed to make predictions untill then, then why wasnt it allowed to change pred. untill the next game, there wasnt a clear deadine and again nobody objected to me getting those points other than you either and havent heard them yet either.
I guess if Holland wins I have to be ok with 3rd place since after all this discussing it probably would be uncomfterable for me accepting 2nd anyway as you clearly stand by your point. Like I said it should have been dealt with earlier, anyway Kaesera sera whatever will be, will be, discussing more wont go anywhere and its getting rather silly.
Behrooz_C 07-12-2010, 09:20 AM Bye Bye Paul. Thanks for the memories!

Behrooz_C 07-12-2010, 09:59 AM What's particularly funny is the comments of "Bild", Germany's largest tabloids. When Paul "predicted" a German win over Argentina, and Argentinian media demanded for Paul to be served for meals, Bild was fretting over the evil Argentinians meaning harm to an innocent animal. Just a few days later, after Paul's verdict on Germany vs Spain, they called on their readers to send in their favorite ocotpus recipes...
