Professor Vali Nasr, an Iranian-American, has been appointed as senior advisor to special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Richard Holbrooke in the Obama administration.

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> TEHRAN (ISNA (http://www.isna.ir/Main/Default.aspx?Lang=E)) - Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Wednesday that there is no problem in a senior Obama administration advisor visit to Tehran. There are reports that the US President's advisor on Iran, Vali Reza Nasr, has stepped in Tehran.

Mottaki told reporters on the sidelines of the weekly cabinet meeting "every Iranian, living in every part of the world, could travel to his country and there is no problem in this regard."

Yet, it has not been confirmed by Tehran that Nasr has arrived in the country.

Nasr, is a senior advisor to the special US envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, and the son of prominent Islamic philosopher and historian of science, Seyyed Hossein Nasr.

Meanwhile, regarding probable Iran-US talks in October he noted "as the Supreme Leader has declared, the issues between Iran and the US hinge on behaviors and judgments are formed on this basis."

As I mentioned in Roxana Saberi thread I strongly believe while passing a hefty US treasury check under the table he negotiated her release from IRI prison.

I don't think it's about money Rasoul jan. There are far more important things for them to get a green light on through US envoy.

Seems AN and Obama now can be considered friends through Vali Nasr who knows influential people in both gov's.

I think he is a good choice for US. He knows Islam, Iran and both languages. So he can ease talks between Obama and Iranian authorities.
What I find interesting is this part:
"Meanwhile, regarding probable Iran-US talks in October he noted "as the Supreme Leader has declared, the issues between Iran and the US hinge on behaviors and judgments are formed on this basis."
Why October?

Ali jAn,
I didn't mean to say money was all of it. Arresting show boat of this poor girl was all politics toward negotiations.

They are going to wait for Iranian (possible) new administration to take shape and probably extract a hint of what type of foreign policy platform they can expect from it. If AN remains in the office I personally would not expect any change in Iran-US relations.

BTW: Seyyed Vali Reza Nasr can be considered a free lance IRI lobbyist in Washington. Try to read his book "Democracy in Iran", he speaks highly of democracy in Iran under IRI.
