No! That doesn't mean 500 Indians without nipples. It stands for the world most sport spectacle. This coming Sunday 10:30 AM uset on ABC.

Every Sunday of Memorial week end around half a million spectators will rush to occupy the Grand Stands and In-Field grounds of Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) aka Brickyard to watch the "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" which is one of the oldest and richest motorsport events in existence, having the largest attendance and one of the largest radio and television audiences of any single-day sporting event worldwide. For you Soccernuats this number exceeds the # of spectators who attend the WC final which happens every 4 years and it is not considered as Single Day event.
Indy 500 will start at 10:30 PM US Eastern Time on Sunday 24th of May 2009, the Pre-Race, Race and Post-race festivities will all be broadcast live by ABC and many other Radio and TV broadcast around the world.
The cars begin the race in a rolling start, traditionally in eleven rows of three, for a field of 33 cars. Most other automobile races have two cars in a row, they have to complete 200 laps in this 2-1/2 Miles Oval track for 500 miles (805 km). It is the most dangerous Track and Race in the world, during the race drivers will have to drive Flat-Out meaning Gas pedal all the way to the floor (some driver put their left foot over the right so they don’t LIFT by reflex) even going through the Turns which there are 4 of them per lap, just imagine going straight toward a concrete wall at speed over 240 mph (380 kmp), 39 Drivers, 16 Mechanics and Track personnel and 10 Spectators and By-Standers have lost their lives during Indy 500 Races in the past. I hope this Sunday they all finish the race safe and sound.
But this Indy 500 is very special, there will be 3 very beautiful Young Ladies who will be honored to take the Green Flag and start the Race and I hope one of them takes the Checkered Flag as well that is why I dedicated my Avatar to Danica for good luck, I’m not her fan but I always love to watch and be present when History is being made, as I said I really hope one of these Young Ladies Drinks the Milk .

Looking at the capabilities of the teams, experience of the drivers and some other factor I think , Brizilian Helio Castroneves , Aussi driver Scott Dixon and. British Dan Wheldon have the highest chance of winning this race (in that order).
It is interesting to know that some Nascar Drivers also participated in Indy 500 and NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 has been held on the same day after the 500 is finished so after the race these drivers used to hop in Helicopter go to the airport and get in their jets fly all the way to Charlotte and start another 600 miles long race in a different car.
Tony Stwart , Robby Gordon and John Anderetti have gone through this routine mutiple times.
Firstly lets hope for a safe race for all of these Champions and for a great and spectacular race this coming Sunday

Wow Rasoul jaan, great article and thanks for taking the time to fill us in. It's always different when an enthusiast and a friend fills you in, rather than reading a generic article. :)

I must say, you had me at "nipples" and that was before I even got to the milk part or that sexy picture of Danica. So, where do I book my ticket for next year?! ;)

I'm guessing you've been there already and many times. It sounds like a great party and a must see event. I've only been to the Molson Indy in Toronto one time and that was in 2003 when Paul Tracy (sp?) won it. The smell and sounds were out of this world and it was only because of scheduling conflicts that I never made it down again I definitely do need a crash course in the sport. Are the tickets expensive? Will you be making the trip next year. I'd definitely be in. :)

Behrou jAn,
Traditionally the winner of Indy 500 will sip milk out of a bottle instead of world wide spread Champagne popping.
All 8 Formula 1 USGPs were held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway which I didn't miss any plus I was there for 1 Indy 500 so total 9 times.

The most expensive ticket will cost you 150 USD which will put you in Penthouse with the best view but 50 USD will do just fine. Tickets are available through Indinapolis Motor Speedway itself http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/
or any other nationwide ticket outlets.
The event is an awesome experience.
BTW: I also attended 1 Molson Indy in Toronto, I was right by that gate looking structure at the beginning of the long sweeper.

Pas az Danica khoshet oomad hA????

LOL. I was teasing with the milk comment Rasoul jaan, but now you're teasing back with Danica in a bathing suite - touche. :drinking47:

Yeah, she's quite cute actually, not to mention she gets quite a few sexy points for being amazing and successful n a particular field - I know, I have a strange scale for handing out sexy points. ;)

$150 is not bad at all, particularly for great seats. TBH with you, I thought you were going to come back with something around the $700 range, in which case I would have had to settle for sitting on the grass for about $100 and that was still okay. So, are we going next year? Are we going, are we going, are we going?

Yap, She is something. Being capable of driving an Indy car with 240 MPH and making her male competitors perspire is one helava accomplishment.
AghA Behrou,
I'm sitting here and praying for return of Formula 1 to US again. Max Mosley and Tony George (B$$tards) let the deal fall through because of something around 10 Mil. USD, but they might come up with a deal for 2010 in different American race track than Indianapolis, if so I absolutely will be there, if not then Indy 500 it is.

Sounds great Rasoul jaan. I'm with you for either one. I've always wanted to see a Formula 1 racte too. :) Had no idea the US leg fell apart. $10M doesn't sound like a lot of money for that type of event - it's peanuts. :(

BTW, I Wiki'ed Danica and couldn't believe she's only 27. Good for her and you're absolutely right, it takes a lot of confidence and guts to do what she does. Very impressive indeed.

Congratulation to Helio Castroneves for winning the world most prestigious motorsport race for the 3rd time.
and congrats Danica Patrick for such a prefect driving and finishing 3rd, again a first for a female in the history of Indianapolis 500.

There were plenty of horrifying crashes but locking every involved driver walked away with minimum injuries and light broses.

Oh BTW: Did you notice Helio Castroneves was my first pick for win? ;)

Yeah, good call Rasoul jaan. So Danica came third? Unbelievable. I guess she doesn't have to up with "this is a men's sport" crap anymore or saying she's popularity's only because she's cute! I was definitely sending some positive vibes her way. ;)
I was doing some serious yard work, so didn't get a chance to turn the TV on until 6 p.m.! :(
How did the other two Dixon and Wheldon fair btw?

Dixon took the lead from Castroneves half way through the second lap and lead the majority of the race very strong, but lady luck slapped him on the face when he came for the last pit stop (tires & gas), wheel Nut got jammed between the impact wrench and the axle threads on the right rear tire, before panicking mechanic could straiten the things out he lost 8 position and that was the end of the day for him.
Dan Weldon's car wasn't competitive, and he has been struggling through out the race.

Thanks for the update Rasoul jaan and the crash video. That was definitely a bad move from Matos (the guy in the Blue car). You gotta feel for the other driver in these situations. :(

BTW Rasoul jaan, what do you mean by his car wasn't competetive? Do they not test the cars before they get on the track to make sure they meet minimum performance requirements?

Agha Marco, translation on the 2nd line please! ;)

Mr. G,
Yes they normally test the cars for more than a month before Indy, but There are numerous factors involved in setting up the race car.
Team engineers can do what ever they want on the car technically but strategy which is always unpredictable plays a vital roll.
For example team predicts that track temp. will be around 90 deg. and they set up the car accordingly and 20 laps to the race it becomes 100 or 82 and team's set up is all ruined.
Considering grip (traction), slippery and Temp. the track condition will constantly change and it is almost impossible to predict. So team decides to go with specific set up according to information available and hope for the best.
Most of the time wealthy teams have their own helicopters flying within 20 miles radius of the track looking for rain so they can inform the team to get ready for rain and have little more head start than the other teams.
When time difference between 1st and 2nd place is .8 second then teams are always on the look out for that little advantage.

Thanks for the explanation Rasoul jaan. There is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that I guess I will be learning more from you as I get into it a bit more. Had no idea the cars were that sensitive to environmental conditions.

I hope you guys aren't talking behind my back, right in front of me with this azari stuff! ;)
